    Canadian DRL questions

I've got a canadian spec 1990 325i and am in the middle of doing yet another headlight upgrade. I'd like to look into deleting the DRL's to try and save on expensive bulbs as running them for 2-3 hours a day or more quickly and needlessly kills shortens the lifespan. I've come across a couple different methods and I'm trying to figure out which is the preferred.

1: Relay mods, all kinds of hacky shit under the dash involving reversing relay actions etc.
2: Connecting the gr/yl from the headlight switch to the ground pin on the relay lowbeam relay

My goal is to have the option to run only park lights during the day, and turn on the actual lows when the sun goes down. My issue with option one is it is hacky as hell, and my issue with option two is I can't seem to find a comprehensive diagram in the ETM that outlines the changes and explains why with DRL's headlights are on in position 0 and position 2, but off in position 1. This is not a one time thing as all three of my e30's have worked this way. If there are no clean solutions I will likely just leave it as is, but I would much rather it function exactly like a stock american model.

sometimes a simple US spec headlight switch is all you need. Often car manufactures just change one part than the entire wire harness.

Check out the diagrams for the US vs CA switch, and post up the different schematics you have. I'll look at them and give you what you need to do with the least amount of work, and what isn't "hacky."

Bing says he had to mod his switch, but I'm pretty sure I still have a non DRL switch from my older eta that I can try out first.
