anyone interested in LED tail lights?

would anyone be interested in LED tail lights that use the original late model lenses?
i don't have them but have thought about making some.
what would you pay for them?

It would probably depend on if you can make them clean and OEM-like and not like gaudy Chinese ricer tails, if you get my drift. That's especially hard on older cars like these.

it would look something like this: (not my picture)

i might try to blend the LEDs together rather than have them singled out like that. really depends on what people would want, if they would want them at all.

LED - Questions, and my opinion

Looks good with the edge to edge coverage, nice and orderly. Fills the lens well!

I wonder if they could be spaced more closely together, without the dark areas between the bright spots. A diffuser of some type may even it out, but would it dim their output?

Only think I wonder about - are these brake or tail lights? I would imagine brake, since that is where the instant-on response is most valued.

Are you in contact with the builder? I would like to see pics with tail only, brake only, and both tails and brakes - for comparison to show relative brightness of the two.

Reason I ask, I am working on my own LED retrofit to E30 lights, and want to be sure it does NOT look ricey, but rather like BMW would have done it, tail and brake with LED, Maybe turns if I can get the flasher to behave well, and possibly Reverse lights as well - say, if you have too much money, and want the best possible reliability, size, and performance.

I wonder how it would look to have each of the three rectangle red sections outside area lit up when the lights are on, and then the center area of each red section light up when braking.

I've been thinking about making a pair for years but never had enough time to actually do it. I also want to integrate the celis parking lights.

To help out a bit here's a link for an LED flasher unit that takes care of the fast blinking issue:

              any actual interest in these?
unfortunately i've never actually seen this executed. that was a random google image.

if theres any interest i'd make them to sell. i don't plan on making them until then though.

they're going to be a little too expensive to just make and not sell any.

i planned out this whole project at one point. it was 200+ 10mm leds PER LIGHT when spaced properly to fill each section. the cost of cheap LEDs + tail lights + time was far greater than any amount you can sell them for. IIRC i figured you'd have to sell the set of tails for $500 or so otherwise you are doing 20+ hours of work for less than what they pay people to make nike shoes in china.

e30 guys wont pay $500 for tail lights.
