euro smileys (or non-smileys). us spec lights have fresnel lenses in front of the projector which makes the cutoffs of even the best lights out there fuzzy. it would still be good light output if you are strapped for money, however.

Is TRS the best place to get Morimoto HID kits? I'm still confused as to what would be the best headlight to use for this kit, Euro smileys? US ellipsoids?

Its still the same. FXR retro into a euro smiley. Yes to get the morimoto kits goto TRS's webpage.

retrofitsource has their holiday sale, luckily i waited and snagged the Morimoto Mini H1 retrofit kit for only $180 which is $100 off the normal price! will post another DIY if no one does it before me. did a bunch of research and it seems the H1 kit performs pretty damn well even compared to the bigger fx-r kit. plus, i can make it completely reversible should I need to transfer it to a different car in the future.

I jumped the gun too soon and payed $150 for the kit without the projectors. Oh well it was still well worth the loot I spent.

The HID expert that I know was unable to get it to work with the Euro Smileys :(

You will probably have to go FXR or something else.

the good news is if you have euro smileys the morimoto H1 kit is really awesome.

The morimotos were too small or just didn't fit right without fabrication. He was able to get them into a Toyota Corolla though...

Does that include the DEPO Euro Smileys I installed? They seem pretty durn good.... but then I might just be too wowed by the light output.

he should stop calling himself and expert, then. the mini h1s will work just fine in the euro smilies. in fact much easier than fxr or any full size as it looks like i barely have to cut the original projectors up at all. not done yet but well on my way to making them fit.

i know this is kind of a thread resurrection here, but i am slightly confused.

if i want to just buy HID bulbs/ballasts, can i get a reasonable upgrade from stock h1 (non-hid) bulbs? Will the HID bulbs even fit the stock housing?
I currently running depo euro smilies.
For example, lets say i want to run H1: MORIMOTO XB35 bulbs. could i do this without modifying the stock projector or housing?

yes. the h1 HID bulbs have the same fitment as the stock h1 bulbs.

the other discussion intertwined is talking about fitting the actually HID projector from a kit in place of the stock one. these HID kits have a projector designed to focus the light of a HID bulb the most effective way (different from a halogen projector)
