    HID retrofit into my e30

    Hi peops

posting a new thread since my searching (r3v, max, bimmerforums, google) was unsuccessful

I want to do a OEM projectors retrofit into my e30.
There are two problems that i can foresee:

    - E30 housings are too shallow and most of projector assemblies are too long, guess one has to do some manufacturing to extend the original housing

    - I could not find anyone selling clear (as in fluteless and elipsoidless) headlight lenses (i wouldn't want the projector to beam into an ellipsoid or flutes as that would screw up the optical effect i presume)

Please, those who have any info on this, chime in.
One person on r3v mentioned that someone retrofitted e39 hids into e30 and posted on max, but i never found it on max

    Thanks
    Alex

I machined my own housing to fit e65 bi-xenon projectors into my car. If you want clear lenses, a guy on ebay sells them with a metal ring attached, or you can go to a glass shop and have them cut for about $10, or to a plastic shop and have them milled for about $30.

pm me if you want pics of my setup.

E30 housings are not too shallow for HID's, I have a set of Bosch projectors where all I had to do was make a mounting bracket. You don't need different lenses for your headlights unless yours are pitted, pitting will deflect the beam and can blind/piss off oncoming traffic.

Make sure all of your wiring is in good shape also, you will need to put a bigger fuse in for the HID's as they require a lot of power on startup.
