new HID kit or just bulbs

I bought a set of VVME hid's about 5 years ago for dirt cheap. They worked great till a couple days ago when one of the lights sarted turning purble after warming up.
Wondering if I should just try to find some new bulbs to replace or go for a whole new HID kit.

Been a while since ive looked so what is the best way to go for HIDs these days?

If I were you I would first find out if my ballasts are still good. So you know exactly what to replace.

Now in terms of the best route. If your ballasts are still good I would buy morimoto bulbs and pair them with my ballasts. I beleive a full morimoto kit costs $150 (bulbs and ballast). But the bulbs only cost $40 I think. I would suggest to get 4300k bulbs for maximum light output. This is the best option if your bulbs are the only problem.

If it turns out that you need a whole kit then the morimoto kit gets pricey $150. My suggestion here would be to do the best you can in your price range.

5k is pure white I believe. I have 5k in mine and i think theyre fantastic. Theyre nice and bright (with the help of 55w ballasts). I wouldnt mind 4300k either.

But here is my word of advice when it comes to glitchy HID stuff. Make sure you check all your connections. One of my bulbs started flickering and changing color. It turned out to be the contacts wernt making good connection. It was a 2 minute fix. I would just mess around and isolate your problem before buying new stuff if youre on a budget.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

I'd figure out what's wrong first. If any things broken and you want a new setup check out DDM tuning. I've had their ballasts + bulbs in my smoked smilies for 2 years and they're still holding up great. Brighter than any other lights I've seen, honestly. Make sure you aim them right, otherwise you'll be blinding people ;)

Being in a small headlight, would the 55w get too hot?

been reading bad review of the DDM kits. i think im just going to keep my vvme ballasts as they seem fine and make very little noise and get some bulbs from morimoto and see what happens

only problem with ddm hids is that they are a hit or miss. if i were to order from ddm tuning i would purchase a lower temperature and anticipate receiving a higher one. although, this is not always the case, hence the hit or miss.
