high beams stuck on, turn on when in reverse

Well this is a new one.
Put car in reverse, highbeams turn on and stay that way until I turn car off.
What connection do these circuits possibly have? none other than the germans couldn't wire things very well in the 80's.
Also, turning on highbeams normally is now a one way trip, they stay on.
Have you guys encountered this at all?

also noticed that the fuel gauge isn't going up all the way, just filled up. it dives when putting car in reverse.. more clues. I think i'll start with chassis ground point under the wheel when i get home.
