    LED bulbs for 9006 ellipsoids

Does anybody have experience with LED replacement bulbs such as these? Standard 9006 bulbs are ~1000 lumens, these are 1600-1800. The LED is placed in the same area as the filament in a halogen bulb, but I'm wondering what kind of pattern these throw.

I already have HIDs and they are fine. I'm just very curious about these.

I'm skeptical they are as bright as they say they are. I'd bet since there are two LED's per bulb, they are adding the lumens for each together to get their number (900+900). That is NOT the same as 1800 lumens.

Then there is the issue of side lighting. These only produce light up and down, not out the sides.

And FYI, regular bulbs will produce closer to 1500 lumens, more if you have better bulbs.

Well I did come across a review on another car site (for the FRS if I recall correctly). The comments were that it was bright but the beam was focused down and too close to the front of the car vs projecting outward.

It will be nice once a proper lens and bulb is developed, but it seems that it's not too far off.

The biggest problem with "retrofit" lights, whether it be HID or LED, is the factory reflectors were designed to work with normal halogen bulbs. Different types of bulbs put out different light patterns, so the reflector has to be designed to capture as much light as possible from the bulb. If you change where the light is coming from (with an HID or LED bulb), you throw the optics all out of wack. It's kind of like wearing someone else's prescription glasses.
