    Headlights on all the time

Hi, I'm new here so I just thought I'd say hi and ask a question.
I'm about to buy (hopefully) a 1990 325ic from my cousin and he said that the previous owner had modded the headlights to stay on all the time. so when the light switch is in the "in" position the lows are on, in the "middle" position no lights are on, and in the "out" position the low and high beams are on. Has anyone done this, and if so, how did you do it. I want to do some reverse engineering but I thougth it might be easier if i knew what was done in the first place.

Also, he mentioned today that a couple of times the windshield sprayers have stayed on after he sprayed the windshield. He said he just had to pull over and turn off the car and it would stop. He's had the car for 3+ years and it happened 2 or 3 times.

    Thanks for your help!!

its a canadian car. my car does that.
    its not a modification.

for the wipers, it may be a connection or something.
i think if you search you might find something. it might of been discussed already. not sure.

Sort of. If what he is saying is true then it is a mod of some sort.

On Canadian cars, the 'out' position just turns on the low beams and side markers. The high beams don't come on unless you push the headlight stalk forward.

Ah ok. So the stalk is supposed to be in the middle position for "off". In the middle the parking lights are on. If I pull, the highs come on, and if i push the lows come on. So that's normal?

Also, I looked for the washer thing and i couldn't find anything, but i'll try other things. Thanks again!

By 'stalk' I am refering to the stalk on the steering column. The light switch is the one to the left of the steerin gwheel with the fog light switch.

          The switch has 3 positions.

          1) In - Headlights are on when the car is running
          2) middle - Headlights are off all the time and sidemarkers are on all the time
          3) Out - Headlights and sidemarkers are on when the car is running.

The stalk has a bunch of positions

          1) up - right blinker
          2) down - left blinker
          3) forward - high beams
          4) towards you - flash highbeams

actually, sidemarkers are always on doesn't matter the position.
when its fully out in position 3, it allows you to use the fog lights and highbeams while having the lows and sidemarkers on.
when its pushed in, its just the lows and sidemarkers and highbeams and fogs are disabled.
in the middle, its just the sidemarkers and nothing else.
