"Door" function of dome lights don't work... On switch functions normally?
Remove the light and inspect it. The switch functions by moving a metal plate from one side to the other, and if the contact on one side has corroded or broken off that side of the switch won't function. Also, the wiring and/or plug on one side may be messed up somehow.

I've inspected the 2 metal plates... obviously one is functioning fine.
The one that isn't functioning doesn't have any noticeable defects... What do you recommend cleaning this with?
Lastly, if the wiring/plug is messed up on the other side -- then am I screwed? haha.

Mine was completely broken so it was easy to see it was messed up :p If you flip the switch, the plate definitely makes positive contact?
You can clean the plate with something like scotchbrite and brake parts cleaner, but if it's excessively burned there may be something else going on. Most likely, the wiring would be burned/melted near the bulb itself. Obviously it could be messed up further down the line, but I honestly don't know exactly where the wires pop out for you to inspect.
