Right now I have no high-beams. Check these photos out. There is no bulb in the high beams is what I'm saying and I think it's already wired to have high beams or no? What do I need to install high beams? Thanks for the repsonse! :o

ok, first of all lets establish what type of lights are in your car. (US ellips, Euro smileys, aftermarket reflector, etc.)

im going to assume you have some type of projector(US/smiley) lights because you have an hid kit installed.

picture 1 tells me you have an hid kit.

        picture 2 looks like a 9005/9006 connector.

picture 3 i have have no idea what that is.

picture 4 just shows an extension of picture 1 (the wires that go from the ballast to the bulb)

picture 5 is neither a sealed beam/US/Euro connector, im not exactly sure what that is.

lets break this does again. please state what are the original lights that came on the car, and what are the current lights that are installed (if you have changed them).

all cars will have a low beam and high beam connector, but in order to identify them you have to answer the above questions.

if you are unsure of what type of lights you have please post a picture of the front of the headlight. (take a pic standing in front of the car)

Thanks for the info, and right now only low-beams have bulbs so I have no idea what used to be in the high-beams. I bought it like this. I think it has the original smilies that came on the car. Low-beams are the HID's. Could I get a second set of HID's and put them as the hi-beams with what I have?
How can I tell what lights I have? Like smilies etc? Thanks a lot

          Here's a pic of them

You don't want to use HIDs in the high beams. They don't react well at all to flashing which is why they're usually reserved for low beams and why the relays have to be in good shape to keep the low beams from flashing.

As long as the connectors are correct, you'll use H1 bulbs in the high beams. You can also get high output builds at sites like candlepower.com or from mo brighta on here.

I looked at tutorials and wiring stuff and I think I have the stuff ready to go, so if I get an H1 bulb "kit?" will it have the connector I need to plug into? Do they need ballasts? I just looked them up and it comes up as part of HID listings. Any thoughts?

You have smileys. This means that you will use an h1 in both the low and high beams.

You do not want to put hids in the high beams because they will not work properly when you flash your lights. You want to buy two h1 bulbs of your choice (regular/high output). You want the halogen bulb which does not have any ballasts.

The bulb will go inside the housing and will be sealed fron the back using a cap. You will notice that the cap has a place where a plug goes. You want to find where the high beam connectors are and plug them into that cap. You will also want to make sure you have the right type of connector according to the lights, the euro smileys use a euro connector. So if you want to connect it properly you will want to obtain that connector.

JUST posted this in another thread:

You really shouldn't put HID bulbs in a halogen projector. The halogen projector can't focus the light properly and scatters it in places it shouldn't be. I highly recommend getting these guys:

More on why you should use HID's in halogen housings:

Thanks so much guys! I was messing around with my lights and I put the low beam HID in the high beam plug and when I put the brights on the other low beam stays on so I went with the HID's because I know I have everything for them to work. They may not be the best but I know they will work, and I like the bright HID look. Sorry for being a noob. I'm new to maintaining and customizing cars and also to the e30 so thanks for bearing with me! I really appreciate all the help.

You're going to mess things up that way...HID bulbs need a ballast to function properly, and even with a ballast they won't work right in a high beam. If they work fine, they aren't real HID bulbs anyway. Read up here about why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_ballast
Euro smileys with 55W high output bulbs are plenty bright for regular driving. I know, I have them.
