Brightest non-hid bulb for ellipsoid's?

While this is true, the wiring in the whole circuit may not be up for handling the current bump of using higher watt bulbs (read 100 watt). What usually gives out is the circuit board of the fuse box.......the underside!.....which means ya gotta pull the board out to fix it. -
Get clear bulbs, they'll be brighter. Tinted bulbs of any type will be less bright than the clear alternative.Leave a comment:

Anyone used OSRAM 12V 55W H1 night breaker replacement bulbs?
OSRAM are what you get when you buy a bulb from dealer so should be a quality brand

Got another question - anybody know what this little socket looking thing's purpose is, if any?

It hasn't been mentioned here, but there's also a delay in actuation when bulbs over stock wattage are installed. This can be especially annoying if you're trying to flash your high beams and they don't activate quickly enough.Leave a comment:

Anything more than 55W starts to melt the housings. Plastic reflectors do not like heat. Good old cibie, hella's bosch glass light pre ellipsoids will take a 100W H1 with ease.Leave a comment:

Mine only lasted a year, so I went back to regular $15 bulbs.Leave a comment:

Well, I use 55W Narva Rangepower+ which are noticeably brighter than stock at the expense of a little lifespan apparently. I'd recommend them 100% for anyone looking to upgrade H1 output at stock wattage.OSRAM Silverstars are good bulbs, Sylvania Silverstars are crap.
But really, basically all halogen bulbs at the same wattage put out the same amount of light. Gotta step up in wattage to get any brighter. If you do though, you may need to upgrade the wiring a bit to handle the extra load.Leave a comment:

i thought of getting the phillips extreme ones because i read that they were the brightest, but i read a lot of reviews that said they didn't last very long. i ended up just buying plain old silverstars for like 22 bucks, they work well enough for meLeave a comment:

Two things. First, ANY tinted bulb is going to be less bright than an equivalent non-tinted bulb. If I remember correctly, the Silverstars are tinted blue.
Second, the brightest low beam you can get for the US projectors are HIR bulbs.

Yes, the silverstar ultras. And by h4, i mean im currently running a pair of the hella low beam ones with silverstar bulbs and have these ellipsoid's i want to mount up and am seeking the best non-hid bulb i can fit into the projector.
Sorry for the confusion on my part good sir, just seeking some advice before i drop the money on some crap bulbs.Leave a comment:

What do you mean by ultra brights? You mean SilverStar Ultra's? I have read the silverstar line is really not any better than most stock bulbs. Maybe a whiter cleaner looking light, but not ultimately that much better in actual depth/width. Same story with PIAA. Those Philips seem to get decent reviews though.
And isn't the US ellipsoid low beam a 9006/HB4, not an H4?
EDIT: I see the philips link I gave originally was for the 9003, they don't actually list the 9006 on their site anymore, not sure what that means.Last edited by hankolerd; 02-16-2015, 02:50 PM.Leave a comment:
