Haven't bothered to look into this for a few years, just installed smileys with the TRS mini-h1 projector conversion. Everything works well enough but the way canadian lighting is wired is causing issues on startup.
When starting the car the headlights auto start in position 2, flick off during cranking, then restart when key returns to position 2. This causes the lights to sometimes not re-ignite properly and can't be good for the ballasts.
For anyone not experienced with it, Canadian/Euro (??) lights are wired for DRL post 1990.
Headlight sw.
Pos. 1: Headlights, tailights, marker lights on, hi-beam works on flash only and fog lights will not work. All lights turn on/off with the the car in/out of position 2. Will not drain battery.
Pos. 2: Headlights and tailights off, marker and dash lights on, hi-beam on flash only and no fogs. Lighting will not turn off when key out, can drain battery.
Pos. 3: Headlights, tails, markers, and dash lights all on. Hi-beam will work on flash and continuous modes, foglights will work but I believe it turns off the lows/highs. Same as in position 1.
I've tried finding a wiring diagram for a euro/canadian spec car with little luck, and mine (and many others) don't have the "loose wire in the fuse box" method to remove them. There are three headlight switches out there for the e30 that I can find
61311394118 - European models from 09/89 up
61311377281 - USA/Euro models with sublabel "National Version Canada", also listed without label
61311386631 - USA/Euro, same as above
I've come across this wiring diagram, which doesn't help much at all because of how blurry it is. I can kind of make out some of the wire colors and there is an obvious difference from the way that a standard non-DRL e30 is wired.
