    ^^Yes. Correct, H1, sorry.

Those amplilux are sweet. I haven't seen them for sale for a while.

Here's another weird variation - a Cibie Biode with similar design idea..

So do you like the Cibie H4 low-high light? Way more expensive but apparently a better more efficient light than the Hella.

Can you just buy a Cibie, or do you need to make sure it's an "E code?"

Cibie makes a better light than Hella, in my opinion, by a tad. Both are great, but the Cibie is a bit greater. And yes, they are more pricey, but you get more out of them for a long, long time, so it's worth it in my opinion. Of course, you will have headlight protection film, so they won't break when the first big rock comes along... right?

As far as I know, the E code is for ECE regs, not needed for DOT approval; I believe the US DOT thinks nothing of these lights, and technically they are all illegal unless they have the SAE stamp. But who's looking? I haven't had to pass a vehicle safety inspection for decades, and no, my lights are not SAE homologated.

Nice shot of that Biode, must be NLA, right?

Anyway, here are two pics of the light I sacrificed.
Here is the amplilux with no lens, showing both reflectors clearly.

And here is the back side showing the two bulb loading penetrations, with covers in place. H3 is high, on the right; H1 is low, at the top.
