    Wiring fogs to run independently

Is there a way you can set up the wiring so the fogs run independently of the headlights? I remember hearing somewhere that it involved shorting a connection in the fuse box but I'd rather hear a real working solution than go sticking wires in there. Thanks in advance... it'll be nice to be able to drive in the snow without the headlights catching nothing but white.

    EDIT: The car is a 1991 318is.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

The PO of my car did mine. But, they stay on even when the actual lights in the car are off. I may need to investigate that in the future.

Try http://bmwe30.net , I think they have an article on this.

There is one really cool advantage of this...

Say you're being chased by someone, or you don't want them to see your license plate number (at night of course).

Well, turn off your lights, and turn on your fogs. Now you can see, but they can't see your license plate. Good stuff, huh? :P

All you should have to do is modify your realy and you're in business.

Take out the Fog light relay K8
Bend Prong number 85 and solder a wire from 85 to the Prong directly in front of it which is not numbered. That means you leave Prongs 86 and 87 as they are!!!

Your fogs now come on with your parking lights hence them staying on even with the key out. You can get creative and wire a warning buzzer if you want ...

...I'm too lazy for that. That's what co-workers and people passing by are for I have had this setup on 3 cars to date. If you're like me and always look back at your car ever so often you're good to go...

Yeah, I look back all the time too. But, it'd be cool to have in there just in case.

Just some rough hints? I'm sure I could figure out the rest. What would I wire where? I'd probably need to find a little speaker, and wire it to something, right?

Anybody got any other suggestions? Any proven working solutions?

I helped pioneer both this writeup for the 88/89 cars (indy fogs) and the warning buzzer. I have all the instructions here, just not typed up.
