sealed beam to ellipsoid upgrade

i have the sealed beam headlights that have the metal peice of sh*t headlight buckets and im trying to upgrade to the ellipsoid headlights with the plastic headlight buckets. i baught the lights off of ebay, and they are in brand new condition. however, after visiting the hella site and looking at their product catalog, it seems that these lights are for a e34 5 series or something. i think the actual headlights are the same, i just need to get new buckets. i somehow tried to install the headlights to my car, and they fit, but with the headlights sticking out a little. does anybody know if the ellipsoid headlights and the sealed beam headlights use different grills? because i think the ellipsoids i have might be too big for the e30 grille sockets.

The same exact grills are used. The 'grill sockets' should fit both lights, as they are of the same diameter. If lights you got are too big, stick out, or both, then they are not the right part number, and probably for the e34 or e32.
