    H1 H1 wiring modification conundrum

I am lost...I bought some Hella BiFocal low beams and Cibie flat face high beams from Daniel Stern and have located additional .pdf documents by "Xmon" describing fuse box modifications to allow the low beams to remain on when the high beams are activated. Daniel Stern advocates installing additional relays and fuses that result in the headlight check panel warning light to illuminate, Xmon notes that his mods will not cause this to happen.

Here's the problem...Xmon has two versions of his modification instructions, one at 13 pages and a revision at 20 pages. There are discrepancies between the documents that he does not bother to clarify in the revision. has anyone else run into this? One poster seems to have run into the same problems a couple of years ago and pointed it out here, but no one responded.

I am hoping that someone who has done an H1-H1 conversion could let me know what wiring scheme they have used to allow high and low beams to operate in unison.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Cheers,
    Paul

Simple: Just jump pin 30 of relay K3 to pin 87a of the same relay. Done.

      ^^^What he said.

The stock wiring already has relays in place, so no need to add more.

Thanks guys...that makes sense. I don't care if my foglights still work with the high beams on (no safety inspections here in California...we can drive death traps as long as they pass smog).

Paul- I have sold BiFocals, and designed relay mods for E24, E28, E30 - there are several ways to do this depending on your wiring which there are several variations of in the E30.

I have lots of the Hella terminals that are used in the fuse box so I do them without needing to cut wires or do anything irreversible. All I need to know is the wiring version (VIN usually works) to make you a small harness for the fuse box. It lets the relays do their job, doesn't screw up the check panel, and lets the BiFocals stay on full time with the headlights.

Since you got the lights, have you thought about (or installed) Headlight protection film to keep them safe from rocks? I have plenty of this, cut to the exact diameter for those lights, only $6 per light. Let me know if you need it.

Did you do the relay pin 30 to 87a jumper? Does it work? Are you happy?

Andy...I did the jumper for the K3 relay, it took me all of 5 minutes to fabricate and install and it works great. If you have the protection film I would be interested...pm me with your Paypal info so I can send you the cash.
