BMW E30 Headlight switch problems

Hello,
I am having trouble with my exterior lights. When I push the switch all the way in, the low beams and tail lights come on. When the switch is pulled out one click, on the dash/ gauge lights come on and nothing else. When I pull the switch all the way out, all the exterior lights come on, but not the dash/gauge lights. Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like someone needs a wiring diagram and a multi meter
do you have either?

I have a multimeter.
Does the problem sound like it is with the switch or the wiring?
