After Euro light swap low beams only work when high beams are on

Purchased an E30 with a light swap already done. Not a real clean job and it's hard to trace back where everything is connected.

The gist is that the main headlights only work when you push the high beams on. So, in order to drive the car at night we've had to remove the fuse from the brights so that only the low beams are on.

This is what we've been able to detect:
switch is good itself (replaced to check and works the same way with each)
fuses 2 and 13 seem to be irrelevant. 1 powers both high beams and 14 powers both low beams.

Power comes in fine into fuse box at the 86 pin in the low beam relay.

I can't find a wiring diagram of the switch to see if the correct wires are going into each of the pins (there looks to be some soldering of wires that may have been done incorrectly).

    Any thoughts on next steps?

Did you get the wires criss crossed when you put them in and have a low beam going to high beam etc

      fixed!

Turns out the the wrong relay was installed which tied the high and lows together. New relay- works fine.
