ok so whats the difference between euro's, ellipsoids, US ellips, smileys, etc. Is it just cosmetic or light output also?

The search tool would give you much information than I could ever remember in one sitting, but suffice to say that the difference is both cosmetic and output. Euro stuff is (generally) better looking and lights up more of the road.
