WRONG. rebased bulbs will have a proper beam patter, non rebased ones won't. if you don't believe that, do a little research into optics. the proper locating of the bulb in the housing drastically effects output and pattern...

you get what you pay for. if you "just" want HIDs, fine. if you want a good improvement in light output and quality kit, get a Hella or Philips setup... glad you like 'em, lets see how long it lasts, that will be the trust test of value.

This is true but an easy way to tell if your hot spots will be affected is to hold the rebased bulb up to your factory ones and compare side by side where the actual filament or gas center is and see if they are aligned. If not, your hot spots will be affected which ultimately will affect light output.

I did see if the hid bulb and the regular halogen were the same length and they are exactly the same length. I will go check on the filament thing right now. I can see a cut off in my garage though.

The filament location and the location of the circular area in the hid bulb are at the exact same spot.

I would seriously look into getting new projectors as well when you do this upgrade. I compared the pattern of the ellipsoid projector to the e46 projector and the e46 was so much better. It isn't very hard to make the new projector fit into our housing either.

With my euro projectors there was a distinct hot spot in the middle of the pattern. As you moved off center it got lower and lower. The e46 has no hot spot, it is consistantly very bright across the entire whole pattern.

The main way I would describe the difference is euro/us ellipsoids were designed to use a certain amount of light output so they had to concentrate more in the center. The e46 hid projector was designed for way more light so they could spread the light out much more without losing anything in the center. 10+ years of development makes a difference.

Oh sorry, the e46 projectors will fit but you have to do a bit of grinding on the edge of the projector. Then make an adapter plate that bolts to the e46 housing and then to the e30 projector housing. You have to break out the inner lip where the gasket goes on the e30 housing.
