What's the best H1 for an elip low beam?

I just installed a set of euro elips and I'm wondering what the brightest, yet affordable, bulb is available? What works for you guys?

    Thanks!

Try the kind without the shield coating on the tip, i'd imagine it'd help some, plus look better. A buddy of mine has the shielded coating on his ellipsoids and it looks like boobies in my rear view.

H1s don't have dipped tips... generally H4s do.

I'm only assuming that you have euro ellips since you're asking about H1s. Don't waste your money on anything other than Osram Silverstars (NOT Sylvania). You'll have to buy them online though.

Take a look at www.powerbulbs.co.uk and there is an excerpt from a magazine that says that the Philips Vision Plus bulbs are even better than the Osram Silverstars.

Oh, i was looking at 9005s for a friend i think (US Ellipsoid), IIRC, 9005s are offered in both shielded and unshielded, but i'm no lighting expert, i'm on sealed beam. XD

Whatever is in his car lights like crap and looks terrible.

          Carry on...

I do have euro elips. I tried some basic GE H1 55W and then today I bought some crappy blue-ish "100 watt" bulbs from VIP that are going RIGHT back as the the GEs are brighter. What's the wattage on the Osrams? I actually live ten minutes away from the Osram-Sylvania plant so maybe I could score some in this country...

They are 55W, they are simply filled with xenon gas so as to make them more efficient than normal 55W bulbs.

Well, by that math the "100 watt xenon" bulbs, optilux I think?, that bought today should be even brighter, but I am extremely underwhelmed.

I just found the package, they are Optilux Xenon White XB bulbs, H1 100W. The are made by Hella it seems. Perhaps I just have my low beams aimed too low that's why I feel I want more light output?

Another vote for Osram silverstars, by far the best bulbs I have used in the E30.

I just ordered the Philips bulbs from powerbulbs.co.uk, I'll let you know how they are. They were better reviewed than the Osrams and I'm really happy with the Philips bulbs that came with my lights so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I put some Osram Silverstars in my father's e34 and I was very happy with them. If the Philips are better than those, I am sure you will be very happy. I can only imagine that re-aiming them wouldn't hurt either...

I'll give it some more love later tonight. My adjusters aren't in the best of shape and coming from sealed beams I think I was expecting that extra bleed-over that pisses people off on the highway. With the elips there is none of that so I don't think I have to be quite so conservative with my aiming.

Which of the Phillips range did you go for?

I have used the vision plus and wasn't overly impressed, I also used the GT150 bulds in my last car and my daily driver, they are awesome but not made in H1
