White pinstripes inside Euro Hella Smileys

I got these in yesterday and one side was all fogged up, so without giving it much thought I took it apart to clean and reseal it. Once I got it all back together, and posted on BF.c it was brought to my attention.

Once I looked, sure enough, the little pinstripes were gone on the set I cleaned.

Here is a pic from before I did anything. They are the vertical lines in front of the projector "eye"

My question is, what do these little lines do?

I'm no genius, but I believe that they simply project the light and disperse it for the maximum light beam pattern.

A close second, I believe, would be strength of the actual housing.

I have no idea what they actually do, but once you touch them, they are gone. They are like chalk.

My car doesn't have them, since I smoked the lights and I've never noticed lights working differnt.

They are painted on and come off easily on older units after all the temp changes they have experienced. You should have just used a heat gun to dry them out.

In no way would they have anything to do with the strength of the housing.

Should be a design to break up the light so that it has refracting points before hitting the road giving better coverage.

I'll leave the one side with them, and the other side without them, and look into it more once I mount them up and get them wired.
