    Are these tails too dark??

    yay or nay?

i wetsanded and painted them... they are butter smooth now! unlike the crazy orange peel i had gotten the first time around. i have yet to clear them though.

it looks a bit dark in this photo, i think the camera overexposed the pic a bit. ill try to post a better one tonite. but gimme your opinions before i apply the clearcoat.

I like them. The fact that you can still see the difference between amber and red says to me that they are not too dark. How do they look with the headlights/brakes on?

there not to dark. I've seen alot worse. Could allways hook up your rear fog lights to the brake or parking lights. If you want more light back there.

i will definitely get more/better pics up... with lights off/on.

im pretty content with them, but it looks a lot lighter in person, i think. i hardly look at the back of my car.

in reference to the light output, it is the same as before, or a hardly noticeable change from stock.

well, its not the light output im worried about, considering plenty of folks run darker tails with very adequate light output. but i am trying to make mine as close to MHWs as possible. i realize i can't quite get the center-most red pieces (above and below the reverse light) pure smoked like the real MHWs... but still similar.

What paint did you use to tint them?

I think they look fine, I basically blacked mine out the first time around, and the light output was fine. But then I decided that looked terrible and did all red which looks fantastic.

Testors model paint... u can find it in Michaels craft stores, or any local hobby store. Some ppl say u can get it at WalMart, but ive never even checked there.

It's all in the prep though...

-wetsand ur tails down with 600 grit paper until ur tails are smooth and dull.
-then paint with ultra light coats.
-finish with clear and wetsand again with 1000 grit or finer. polish the hell outta them.

i have yet to do the last part though.

don't look bad. look pretty good, and pretty close to the MHW's i have sitting on my shelf waiting to be installed.

i asked because it was just the first stage of smoking, but it seems to have started to look darker (initially my friends all thought they still looked stock). i guess it took a day (and some daylight) for my eyes to adjust to them.

thanks for the opinions guys, im gonna go ahead and seal the deal and clear em up, and make em shine!

on a white car with black contrast in likings i would make them black as black, now on my car i want to take off the black and just make them all red, because no matter how many times i redo the tint on them, i can't get the blinkers to be the same amount the left is always brighter then the right, even without the blinker on

I think they look great! I think I'm going to give the testors a shot on mine and see how it turns out. Should be a good project for this boring weekend.

Now, get a euro plate filler on there and it will be perfect.

I thought you had one of those, i'm wondering what it will look like. I hope it turns out good.

i am a big fan of the euro plate filler like everyone else gets... it is a badass mod. but i figured i would try to get the lense one that i have now and do the smoke treatment to them.
