are HID ballasts interchangable?

working at a high end bodyshop i am getting quite a large collection of hid's from" audi's , benz's, bmw's, etc. are the ballasts/bulbs interchangable with something like a good bi-zenon hid kit for my h-4 housings? most of them i have removed the projectors and housings from them along with the wiring, so i have alot of spare complete parts.
i just can't throw them away at work , so i end up taking them home insted. :roll:

The ballasts are all pretty much the same .

Key difference is the output , you know they have different kelven ratings like 4k , 5k and so on .
The different ratings will produce different colored light ouput .

If i'm not mistaken, I think the bulbs are set with a certain amount of xenon gas that determines their kelvin/color temperature. The ballasts are rated as 35W or 55W etc that determine overall lumen output

so i should at least try to keep the bulbs and ballasts together as sets until i decide what to start doing with them or at least label them.

this is how it works. same balasts, different temperature bulbs.
