HID for Low & High beams

    Hey guys,

looking to get a HID kit, I found a japan made HID's pretty good price and I'm wondering if would be a good idea buy two kits, not just one for th elow beams but also for the high beams. When you "make a change of lights" int he hgihway or what not, not sure if the high beam with HID will do it quick as hallogen bulb...not sure if dropp a whole HID setup in my e30 or just the low beams.

Also, what would you use 4300k or 6000k bulbs? I'm undecided, 4300 it's brighter, but the "look" of the light seems to be almost the same as a very good hallogen bulb (color) while the 6000k not sure if will look bit ricey?:D

What model bulb are most runing with theirs HID's over here?

    Thanks for any tip.

Putting the HID'd in your highs is a little overkill. You cant flash or "blip" them as the gas takes up to a minute to reach temperature. I had mine setup like that, and went back to halogen highs, and HID dipped beams.

      /\ What he said.

The HID's would effectively be useless at times because you wouldn't be able to 'flash' your highs due to the delay in warmup. I know my highs are often times used in short stints while going down a dark road, needing to shut off and turn on lights as cars pass by the other way, or they're used for 'blipping' to get someone's attention. HID's wont blip. Halogen for high and HID for low is the best way to go.

As far as the colors go, 4300 is closer to what come stock on factory HID's these days. They do have just a hint of yellow hue. 4800/5000 is known to be the purest/brightest light. I have some 6000 on order because I like just a hint of blue and a truly 'white' light opposed to having that yellow hue involved. 6000 will not look ricey, they'll look very good. It's not until you begin hitting 8000 temperatures and above that you'll start getting that 'ricey' blue/purple look out of it.

I ordered some ApexCone HID's about a month ago but am still waiting on them....

How often do you flash anyone as of lately? Nobody moves over or drives in the proper lane anymore.

Very frustrating out there on the roads.

Thanks guys for the feedback. It make sense no installing HID's for the high beams as emntioned why. About the color, I'm still undecided what route take, 4300 or 6000, maybe I will go with the 6000, I rather have bit blue effect over bit yellow effect liek the stock hallogen lights.

          once again thanks,

ive noticed that when i turn on my lows they immediately hit full brightness (my guess is from the initial ignition (i say ignition only because theres a part called the igniter)) then dim down some until they hit full operating temp

this being the case theres your blip right there

I might be the lone hold out, but I have 4300 in h1 conversions in my Landcruiser, and once they have been on for 3-5 minutes they lose all the yellow/lime color I get on startup. When I throw on my 130w H1 Piaa XT90's, they look yellow by comparison. I haven't been in my BMW since the motor swap, but I put the same kit in the lowbeam lenses for it.

I hear there's quite a variation in true color from brand to brand vs. advertised color, like how Jensen can have a 1000w amp for $40, and a 200w Xtant is $275.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

I have been running Apexcone 6000k 55w in my lows but I just switched to 5000k in both my lows and fogs and love it. There is a bit of a difference in color temperature between the lows and fogs, despite them being from the same company but I'm willing to bet that is more a function of the refractive qualities of the lenses themselves. Philips VisionPlus in my highs but I'm thinking about going brighter...

Do you have photos to compare the 500k & 600k?

This is with the 6000k in my lows, but in person this is pretty much how the 5000k looks. The fogs are still a different color like in the picture.

i had 4300K on my car a couple years ago, and i have 6000K now. i like the looks of the 6000K better. i also had 3000K in my low beams for a little while, and they were AWESOME!!! however, i got pulled over by the police after less than one week, so i switched the 3000K HID's to the fogs, and they work very well there.

Yeah, there's an integra in my town with yellow lows, I'm not sure how he gets away with it. They kind of look like ass though, and they're not that bright either.

why do cops care what your lights look like?
