Finally got a chance to install my headlight upgrade goodies today. Everything went VERY smoothly, thanks to this how-to link: http://bmw.e30tuner.com/articles_eurolight.php
Pretty straight forward really. If I hadn't been doing the HID upgrade too, the whole install would have taken well under an hour really. It was the HID wire routing and knuckle scraping that probably took another hour altogether. Plus I tend to take my time and make sure I do things right the first time.
Okay so here are a few questions I have for those who maybe have done the same or similar upgrade...
#1 : High Beam w/Low Beam
In the how-to I read, the guy talks about playing around with the relays to make the low beams stay on with the high beams. What is the purpose of this? From what I can discern, most cars low beams go OFF when the high beams go on. Is there really any NEED for this modification? Will I find myself unhappy with just my high beams alone in those rare occasions that I use them? Thoughts?
#2 : Fuse Issues with HID Ballasts?
There was a thread either here or on a different BMW forum that I swore I read some people talked about upgrading the fuses once they did an HID upgrade. Has anyone had any experience with that and care to comment? I can get the exact details/specs of my setup if you need (its a 6000k setup, but as far as watts/amps/current draw, I cannot say I know). The instructions with the kit are generic of course (not BMW specific), but said nothing about upgrading fuses.
#3 : Aiming your High & Low Beams
Does anyone have a how-to they could point me to that would show me the correct and proper way to aim the headlights? I noted that my passenger low beam was a little lower than my drivers side after install (looking at my garage door), so I did turn it up a bit. Very "crappy" measurements with a tape measure show that the center of the beam on the door when it was 3ft away was about the same height off the horizon as the center of the light itself. But I'd like to do it right, if someone can tell me how. Would hate to waste the $$$ having to pay someone to do something that easy.
That is it for now -- but i'm sure i may have more questions down the road. It is almost 6:30pm here... I am waiting for full sunset, then it will be time for a late night cruise around town to check out how these look. I CANT WAIT!! so excited... peace out! - Ari
