    Hella H4 Review

For the longest time I was wondering just how good the Hella H4 lights could be. Well, I took the time to take a couple pictures back to back against the Sealed beams.

The bulbs I am using are 100 watt bulbs.

First, this is what the look like when you compare them to your regular $10 sealed beams.
    The H4 headlights (high/low) sell for about $90 for a pair http://www.rallylights.com/hella/5.75_lo.asp

To install them all you have to do is remove the 3 small screws on outside metal trim ring that holds the sealed beam in the headlight frame bucket.

Here is shot of what the output looks like against a sealed beam output. Sealed beam on the left, H4 on the right.

Here is shot with both H4 lights installed.

H4 light output on the road. I adjusted the height to make sure not to blind other drivers and took the car for a spin.

Not a single car flashed their lights at me.

I've had US Ellipsoids on my car with new Silverstar bulbs and I was never impressed with them. I can 100% say that the Hella H4 buckets provide much better output than a good set of Ellipsoids.

If someone wants to let me borrow their Ellipsoids + HID I will then compare it back to back again if there is interest :)

Hopefully this was helpful to some.

Few guys mentioned that the pattern doesn't look like the H4 pattern. So, I am going to double check my installation / wiring and update this thread again.

      Thanks

The Hella's are very, very nice, but you should see the Cibie' CSR's - Unbelievable!! Their price also reflects this fact.

I appologize, I had them wired on Highs instead of Lows.

Here is correct output pattern .

That looks more like it... Notice the sharp cutoff.

Yeah, I've always wanted to jump on a set of Cibie CSRs, but they're rather expensive. Still, I think they're around the same price as a set of Hella smoked ellipsoids.

A set of CSR's will run a bit over $400 from Daniel Stern.

This was the first upgrade I did for my car 2+ years ago..and still wouldn't trade them in for nuttin. I put some PIAA super whites in when I got them too. Its a huge difference from the candles it came with. Once one of those PIAAs go, HIDs, here i come. But Im getting my moneys worth outta my PIAAs.

Oh, I paid $80 for the hellas back then and maybe $65 for the bulbs.
