Another HID problem???

I know there have been many questions about H.I.D's and i've done all kinds of searching. I recently retrofitted a set of H.I.D's into my U.S. ellips. And for whatever reason my driver side keeps going out. I will wire them up and test them and they will work fine. The next day when I go to start the car the driver side headlight will not work and the check low beam light will be on, on the computer. So basically my issue is after a short period of time(usually one day) the driver side headlight will not work.

I have tried different ballasts, different igniters(they are separate), and different bulbs.
I also replaced all the 7.5amp fuses with 10amp fuses.
I cut the old low beam connector off, and wired them directly to the wiring from the ballast.

Here is a pic of how I wired them. You can see the yellow(hot) and brown(ground) factory bmw wires towards the bottom, and the yellow(hot) and brown(ground) on the top from the range rover(where I got the H.I.D's from)

holy old HID's batman.

i had those in my e30, they worked for a lil while then did more damage than good. just buy a set of HID's made for your headlights offa ebay for $90. will work out alot better for you.

What kind of problems did you have? I hate buying something if I have parts laying around. The lights are from an 04' Range Rover. I have had them for a few years just going to waste.

problem with those is that they are made to be sealed up against the bottom of the headlight housing = not water proof. second, the bulbs will never fit rite into your ellipsoids, i thought i had mine nice a fit, and then they came loose and cut through my Ellipsoid housing like a light-saber.

Well I have them fixed in there, and reasonably sure they are not moving. I drove for about 3 hours the other day, and figured they would have came out on that trip if they where going too. Once I figure out this problem that I am having, I plan on siliconing around the plugs on both the ballast and igniter. I can deff see water being an issue though.

I have the same problem, my driver side goes out for about a day or so. Its funny you guys mentioned water, it likes to go out the day I wash my car..

The hellas I have were used for 5 seasons of Baja 250, 500, 1000 and they work great. I only used silicon to seal the bulbs in the light housings. Its not a good idea to use parts on your car that were not made to get wet. I hose my engine bay down with every wash.

My bulbs are silconed in, and my ballast/igniter plug will be as soon as I figure this problem out.

This seems obvious, but have you tried switching the lights? If it moves to the passenger's side, then you know its most likely a HID issue and I would just break down and get new parts. If it stays on the driver's, it should be an issue with your car.

When the light doesn't work, do you still have +12V at the car wiring for the ballast? This should also point to the problem being with the HID setup.

So I went outside today and started the car. And for the first time so far, they have worked overnight. The only thing I did different yesterday was relocate he ballast and igniter further back. So hopefully that fixes that problem.

I've got three sets of headlights, and i've tried all kinds of different hardware. So I am guessing it's a problem with the car, but then again the reason land rover recalled all these lights was for defective parts.

I hate using OEM setups with external igniters. More problems than they are worth. I'd bet it's something in the igniter...

That being said, I have used those setups without issues in the past too. If the problem continues, buy a $60 setup made for your bulb size on ebay and save some headaches.
