Is there any way to make the late model brake lamp work on an early model parcel shelf without cutting anything up? I've grown tired of the giant beacon of light that is my early third brake lamp.

You'll have to use the late model shelf along with the late light. I got a late model set up in mine.

I too have the late 3rd brake light/rear deck, and dread the day it burns out because I did not cut a hole to access the bulb.
IIRC, it is plug and play.
