Hi and Headlight problem ~ clueless!

    Hi, ive got a problem with our e30 323i low-beam Headlights(Driving lights) .

Firstly the passenger side "low-beam", I.E (left if youre sitting in the car as we are in Australia) globe stopped working, so we sourced a replacement globe from our mechanically minded friend. This globe was installed and didnt work.

Today we thought we'd have a look at the situation and see if we could work something out. So we swapped the working globe (driver side) into the non working globe's socket. It didnt work.

We inspected each globe and they seemed to be slightly different so we figuired we would go and buy a globe that was the same as the working one.

We put the "working" globe back in and it would work no longer, so we thought maybe we had blown it and would now need to buy 2 new globes.

Anyway so we went and got 2 new globes and tried the first one in the driver side socket, Didnt work.

This made us confused and so we checked the fuses, one of them was blown, its was a 30amp fuse. we replaced it but still the headlight would not work. ~ strangely the digital clock that never worked is now working!?

So, this is where we are at, with 4 globes, and no idea of the reason its not working, help would be greatly appreciated.

(The globes were all 12v 55w)

Short circuit? Bad relay? Broken wire?
