US spec crosshairs?

ok so i have that template of the smoked cross hairs layout your supposed to get, cut and install. sure, cutting is no problem, but the cross hairs dont fit all the way....

1. they dont sit all the way back AND close enough to the lense, and i thought they should, right?
2. towards the lense, they make a flat edge but the reflectors dont... it makes a small gap as well.
3. around the part where you put a hole in and tighten down the crosshair, there is that lip. what is it for? allow light to travel behind the crosshairs?

what would happen if i made a crosshair like this:

obviously my idea is on the right, and will require some trimming as its not exact... im just going into a ballpark idea here.

Smoking yor head lights. the black cross hairs reflect of the chrome surface on the inside of the light causing it to look black and still maintain light output.

No, its fine for it to sit off the surface, cuts down on heat contact as well. It's worked for everyone else, perfect the way they are designed, don't hurt your brain trying to re-do it over again.
