retrofitting coilpacks from late model onto M20?

has anyone done this to get rid of the coil, cap and rotor?
I was thinking about this last night:
replacecap and rotor with a set of hall effect sensors on the front of the block, with an arm mounted on the end of the crank to trigger the sensors which fire the coil packs.

then the plate with the sensors could be adjusted to compensate for timing.....

    just thinking out loud here.

Anyone have the pinouts of the coil packs used on the M50 style motors?

It is not that simple. You might as well go to Megasquirt and use direct coil control or you can do Megajolt Lite Jr which uses EDIS. This allows you to program in your own advance curve.

I know there is a kit made by someone for M42 engines. Not sure who though. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Yes, but M42 engines already have a computer that is designed to run a coil pack with no distributor.
