Specs:
Awesome single 10" custom sub box
JL Audio 10W3V3
Rockford Fosgate 500a2 (500W x 1 @ 4ohms)
Rockford Fosgate 600a4 (75W x 4 @ 4ohms)
Rockford Fosgate 2 farad hybrid capacitor
Stock premium sound speakers
Alpine deck w/ 5 Volt preouts
All I can say is WOW. My trunk rattle is gone, the bass is crisp and clean, and look at all that trunk space!!
Thanks Luke

Remember the really old Fosgate crap, the ones before that "rocketship" series, the ones we called "Tombstones"?
I had 2 Punch 40s and a Punch 100 in the wifes car, linked together.
One big sexy HUGE mofo that was!
BTW, I think I have a couple of those PunchLinks somewhere in all the junk from my shop, if anyone has a pair of those amps they wanna use.
Not cheap, though. I would not take less than $50 for the link.

luke, any chance you'd have a link for this series: http://www.caraudiostyle.gr/images/i...01s%20801x.JPG
and do you know anything about the old, round, "d" series solobarics from a few years ago?

You can still buy them new, but they are being sold under another name... hopefully Luke knows because I have forgotten."A good memory for quotes combined with a poor memory for attribution can lead to a false sense of originality."

^Kicker's website still has them downloadable... if you can't find it there, shoot me a PM with an email addy and I'll email a copy to you. I save a bunch of sub manuals/specs, especially the older ones."A good memory for quotes combined with a poor memory for attribution can lead to a false sense of originality."

What are the chances of getting the template for that front piece? I didn't get a template with my box! :(

Note: this is just a preliminary 'review' of Luke's 10" box.
So I am getting close to finishing the stereo install in my '87 325is. I spent one night this past week removing all of the interior and carpet and installing Second Skin's Damplifier Pro all in the floorboards. I also ran three sets of twisted pair RCA's and 4 runs of 16 gauge speaker wire for the front components. Today I removed just the front section of trunk tar so that Luke's box will fit flush to the back seat area, which it now does.
Last month after much researching, I bought an Elemental Designs 11KV.2 10" subwoofer for the box. It's required specs matched up well with what Luke said his box is tuned for, but the main reason for buying was price-a guy on ebay had this one brand new in the box and I won the auction. Price was only $35 so I didn't see how I could lose considering eD sells them for $90 on their website.
So I mounted the woofer in the box this afternoon, but the 325is still isn't quite ready-and I was anxious to hear what this sounded like. So I removed the a/d/s/ SB10 subwoofer enclosure from my '88 M3 and put Luke's box in it's place. It is being powered by a Cadence TXA-3002 two channel amplifier, but it is running in bridged mode and supposedly delivers 600 watts into 4 ohms. By the way, I bought two of these Cadence amps off of ebay recently just as a test since they were only $29 each brand new! This was a first production run and the heatsinks were found to be too small, so they basically just got rid of them. Very, very impressive amps-especially for the price.
So how does it sound? DAMN good. Very clean and smooth deeeep bass. It does not have quite the punch and impact of the a/d/s/ box, but remember-the a/d/s/ box is sealed and has two 10" woofers-so of course it's 'slam' will be a bit better than a single 10" in a ported box. However, I feel in my short listening time that it better integrates with the Boston Acoustics ProSeries 5.4 components that I have-just a much smoother transition between the sub and the midrange.
And when the low frequencies are present, it reproduces them extremely well-better than the dual 10" a/d/s/ setup. Note that I just temporarily installed it into the M3 to test it, so I didn't have it screwed down to the metal behind the back seat. Because of this, it probably wasn't perfectly sealed to the interior and it was letting some backpressure get into the trunk. This was causing my license plate and trunk to rattle pretty damn good on low bass notes-but I would imagine most if not all of this would go away when properly fitted flush to the back seat area and ski pass.
So far, I am extremely pleased with this box-Luke's experience has really come thru in finally delivering excellent bass in an E30. As a bonus, it truly does take up VERY minimal trunk space-I think I will still be able to fit my extended length golf clubs in the trunk after all is said and done.
I have had a few different subwoofer boxes/setups in the E30's I have owned and I must say Luke's box is the way to go, bar none. I can't wait to get everything installed in the 325is and move the box back to it and do some serious listening.Eric Giles
