    Electrical HU nightmare

    long story short...

installing my passenger seat i crushed a speaker wire and shorted it.

    it blew the amp

    now have new amp

reinstalled and now i have a alternator whine...wtf

RCAs are run on the opposit side of the car, unpluggd antenna..still doing it, unplugged RCAs and started car...no noise

so tht rules out, speaker wires, speakers, amp? who knows

so now on to the question, while rewiring my HU to be less complicated, i noticed that the PO used the hazard switch as Batt 12+...where do you guys connect your batt +12? I was thinking of runninga new line just to be safe.

also What the hell else could cause this whine? :hitler:

OMFG you should have seen bhind the HU..it was a fucking nightmare

Ground loop problem would be my guess. Either that or badly shielded RCA's.

You want to pull clean +12V from something more solid than the hazard switch... there should be a good filtered +12 line in the radio harness, unless yours has been butchered to all hell.

Your alt whine may be a ground problem, too.

yea, ill by trying out some external run RCAs today or tomorrow, the ones in the car from the PO are not sheilded.

I'm going to dig around in the harness messs for a 12+ batt, i think it might be purple/brown

what a pain in the ass

the kicker is that i never had a whine before i had this current issues with the amp.

Dude do what I did when my sterio got stolen. Get on ebay buy 50ft of good speaker wire, your rca cable, heat shrink, a soldering iron, and solder. Then take one day an redo everything and you will be a very happy man. I installed my head unit a year ago and have never had one single problem.

                ok update

                tried the external RCAs...still whining
                Tried another amp...still whining
                Tried another HU...still whining
Tried grounding the HU to batt...still whining
Tried disconnectiong all speakers one a time and reconnecting...still whining
Tried spare speaker directly to amp in trunk...still whining
Tried moving HU to trunk and running directly conected to amp with external RCAs and external speaker...still whining

                WTF WTF WTF help!

next will try grounding amp to BATT in engine bay

is it possible that a random bad chassis ground can be causing this?

from running the shit out of the trunk with external speaker and external RCAs...they are definatly not he culprit

Also when the car is on engine not running i can hear the HU motor in the speakers...like a slight putting sound...could be that or the ICV..the only 2 things i know of that run with the car on engine off

                  ok

tried running external power to amp and HU in trunk from batt..still whining

Also measured the resistance from the amp ground terminal to a few spots on the chassis in the trunk and was reading about 5 ohms

measued from the RCA collars on the amp with no RCAs attached to ground and was reading about 35-45 Kohms

what the hell is goin on here?

                    ok some more info

ran a shorted RCA pin to collar and nothing else on the amp with the engine running...no whine, same as running NO RCAs

with a Gameboy hooked up to the amp with a line in and th engine is running thre is no whine

This HAS to be a ground loop...BUT, even with the HU in the trunk...sitting on the amp...sharing the same power and ground, with EXTERNAL RCAs, i had noise

im goin to have to reground the amp again and chassis groud the HU somewhere up front, and we wil see what happens

                    any insight?
