    Simple door lock question

i have searched here thoroughly for the answer to this question and i hvae not found it. i bought an 88 325ix that has been sitting for over 6 years from a friend. i have been restoring it and have one last problem to deal with. i dont have access to another e30 to test this so i was wondering if the door locks should work mechanically with the key? in other words, my central locking is not working and i will be diving into that project soon but in the mean time should the doors still lock and unlock with the key? my passenger door locks and unlocks with the key but the drivers side door will only unlock the door. so i have no way of locking the car right now. any info on the mechanics of the system is appreciated.

Dave, quite a few of the online parts houses sell a "tumbler repair" kit.

So what that means is you ain't the only one!

lol. so it should lock and unlock mechanically with the key then. lol the tumbler turns with the key and it will unlock the door and when i turn the key to lock the door it does actuate a microswitch in the door but it does nopt mechanically lock the door nor does the actuator move (brand new actuator) but i do hear the relays clicking in the kick panel. truthfully i would just like to get it to mechanically lock if possible and ill figure out the electronic part later. lol thanks for the reply
