    Euro CD43 Code Help needed!!

    Gruppe:

I bought a CD43 head unit from flea-bay a couple of years ago. It's from a Euro Rover, and came with a 4 digit security code consisting of all 8's and 9's... In order to get it to tune US frequencies, I had to switch the radio to a US mode. When I took the car out of winter storage, the radio had lost its code, even though I had the car on a trickle charger all winter, and the battery was fine. I went to enter the code, and there is no way (that I know of) to enter digits above '6' which is the highest preset on the keyboard. Also, the unit is expecting a 5 digit code now which I suspect is a result of being in US mode.

I've tried all sorts of ways to enter the code and have been locked out several times. Someone suggested pressing each digit the number of times to count up to the code number. That did not work.

Does anyone know of a way out of this mess form me? I cannot change back to Euro mode until I enter a security code, and I suspect I can't enter my 4 digit security code until I'm in Euro mode.... catch 22???!!!

    HELP!!!

    Ron,

Have you had your parts guy run the serial number for the code. I'm sure he knows you well enough to give you the code being Rover's are not sold here in the states. Not like it's a hot radio.

I have an eu CD43 as well but mine has no codes above 6. That's kinda odd. 12Velectronics had the cd43 manual on their webpage you might want to check there.

      Same thing happen to me

Yes a CD43 from ebay. It came as a euro and then I needed to convert it to US in order to get the a.m. stations and proper frequencies.

Question. How many digits is it asking for? It's asking for the US version, right?

I believe all you need to do is type the number 1 and then your 4 digit euro sequence. Let me see if I could find my notes.

I just emailed you. When I had the problem I went to the dealer and they gave me the "us code" which was the number 1 followed by the euro code. Hope that makes sense.

My parts guy came up empty! Said BMW does not have codes for MG/Rover units. Went to 12VElectronics but could not find the manual.

Javier: It's asking for 5 digits... I believe it's the US code. My other issue is that the code is 8's and 9's, but radio only has digits up to 6!

I was reading on the E31 forums about some guy who used the CD43. The following procedure can be used to get the radio into North America tuning mode: BMW Business CD (CD43) 1. That won't work

in order to get to that stage, you need to enter the code first.

Here's my instructions but again, I believe this wont work because you need to enter the code before toggling from euro to us or visa versa. I have more news to post in a sec...

Please do the following and this will be good for any other time when you need to enter the code:
All you need to do is change it back from US to Europe, so the directions below that I emailed you before are good for now as well, that is for both ways.
-Turn it back on, don't touch any buttons after turning it on, exept one button-see below
-Press and hold the "m" button until you see a change on the display (it is about 10-15 seconds)
-Now when change on the display appears, release the "m" button
-Now press the "+" button and see the display change again
-Each time you press the"+" button the display will show different info, keep checking this info after each press of "+"
-After several times of pressing the "+" button finaly you will see "US"
-When you see this area name, all you have to do now is press "1" (number one) button, please check each time you press 1 untill you see "Europe" area name on display, do not use any other areas!
-When "Europe" shows don't do anything else just wait few seconds and turn the radio off
-Now you turn it on and enter 4 digit Euro code and that's it.
-In order to change it back to US just follow the previous directions.
-You are done, please note during all this process don't press any other buttons.

What I posted was from a faq section on bimmerboard. It was from the E38 section, I have not had any issues with mine but I do wish I had my manual as well. It was on pdf and I can't find it. I think it's on my xp computer.

You actually don't need the code in order to get the unit into service mode!!! Although it makes sense the code should come first, I tried it anyway, and sure enough, I held the M button down for a few secs and it went into service mode!!!

Once in service mode, I changed the region back to Europe and entered my 4 digit code. BTW, you enter the code in a different way than in US mode... my code is all 8's and 9's. You hit the first preset button the number of times until it reaches the first digit of your code, then move to the second preset and hit it the number of times needed to reach the second digit of your code, etc. Once the code took, I switched the unit back to US region, and I'm all set!!!

Yes, I have it saved both in my records for that car on my computer, and a hard copy in my file with other paperwork. This was religion for me, it won't be forgotten!! Thanks again for your help.
