    Stock 'IR' radio problems

    Folks,
I have the premium sound package with the 'IR' radio in my 325. The volume knob has always been... a little touchy, in that you had to move it back and forth to actually get any volume change. Lately, it worsened in that I only got sound out of the LF speakers, then after the radio heated up a bit I'd get 4 channels, then after another 20-30 minutes I'd start to get VIOLENT crackling from all channels.
So.. I replaced the head unit with an identical one and all is well with the world. However, I'd like to repair my original unit: how do I go about that? I assume the first order of business is opening it and cleaning whatever potentiometre it's using for the volume knob?

Not sure exactly how you pull the volume control itself apart, but that is your problem. It gets dirt on the contacts and gets really touchy. There are some screws on the back and you should be able to take the top off the head unit and get to it from there though. Good luck...

Thank you sir. I strongly suspect I am going to need it! Will report back.
