    Bad Idea???

    would buying subs a head unit speakers or anything like that off of ebay be a bad idea

    Good lord...are you really thinking about putting TWO P3 12's in your car?

    Keep in mind that ALL car audio today is Chinese or Taiwanese made...so 99% of it is the same shit in a different wrapper.

    Basically, what that means is that it is up to YOU (the person spending the money, right?) to determine if a particular product is crap or not.

    I have found that most of the classic old names have gone to shit, while most of the new names were already shit....goddamn it, that means 99% of the stuff out there is shit!

    Fuck this whole post.

      +1 for research on brands first.

      I will say though, that I took a risk back in my high school days and bought a 2000 watt 2 channel lanzar audio amp -(500 x 2 RMS) for $130 off of a random site - i was strapped for cash at the time. Fortuneately, I have yet to regret the decision. I have a pretty extensive setup in my dd -

      Alpine Type R components in the doors
      Alpine Type S 3 way coax in the rear deck
      JBL tweeters in custom fiberglassed pods behind the headrests on the driver and passengers side
      Alpine v-power 4 channel amp powering those
      3 farad cap
      2 12inch kenwood subs being powered by the lanzar

      I lucked out and picked a brand that happened to be decent, the sound quality is fantastic and I can push the thing all day with no ventaliation without it overheating or clipping. Only downside is that it IS the size of my e30. The thing is freakin huge.. like 1.5-1.75 feet in length.

      Check around, survey the audio gurus - I bet even luke can tell you of a few lower end brands that are worth the money

            the link was just an example Im not going to put 2 p3s in the car

            the reason I am asking this is because I want to re do my system

            short story:
            when I bought my car I was 16 and it only had 2 front speakers so one of the first things I bought for it was a insignia head unit, Blaupunkt speakers and spx 800w amp with 2 8" subs. Now that my car is very mechanically sound I want to redo my system with good quality stuff and i was wondering if ebay was a good way to save money or should I cough up the extra coin and get it somewhere else.

              Hence the reason why I'm glad I kept my old school phoenix gold/zapco/sound stream/precision power stuff. Does any company now even make anything with military spec'd ic boards and hq darlington output transistors?

              Funny short story of how I got pissed and eventually bought precision power amps when IASCA was an infant and some dude won the sound contest with 2 "60 watt" PPI amps back in the day. I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.

                Ya want shit of that quality today, follow the trial of Bob Zeff. He left Zapco in '98, joined ARC Audio in '99.

                Other than that, "retro", which means finding some old freak like me who is willing to sell his old shit.

                I still have a couple of Orion HCCAs, a 400BDG, 300CRX (wewt, motherfuckers!) and a couple of indash EQs.

                I also have 3 (!) H/K CA260s which I will eventually rebuild...or maybe get Jean to do it, since it looks like he kicks my ass in techie shit!

                  Alpine003 - although not as old as some of the zapco/ss stuff, but I still have a pg zx ti amp, also rated at something like 20x4 lol I don't think i'll ever sell it.
