    Fuse Blows... #11

So I recently had a thread about my car not starting. I changed the #11 fuse and it started right up. So now it keeps blowing that fuse. I got the code enforcement on me about that car so tomorrow I have to show that the car will run. So I need you guys to help me out!!!

    Thanks

Yeah don't really do that i was joking. 5 amps up wont hurt anything but i wouldn't do any more up than that. If its not blowing in any specific pattern a 5 amp upgrade might work though, if you do something specific and then it blows you have a short somewhere.

does it happen when you do anything specific or is it random?

just when I try to start the car... #11 is the fuel pump fuse and it only blows when I try to start the car. Sometimes I'll have luck starting the car and other times it'll blow before hand.

Thats odd, I am not that good with cars so you shouldnt hold me to my word but if it starts up sometimes and runs fine and other times blows on startup it sounds like an ignition problem. Maybe someone else will chime in anytime and help me out here.

Shay, you have basically 2 choices: Fuse 11 runs nothing but fuel pumps.

You have either a shorted wire or a bad pump.

The fuse gets power from the relay, so it cannot be the relay.

Same 2 choices: bad pump or bad wire.

I don't know if your car is early or late, but the schematic is the same on both, but the early manual is more detailed. If you look at page 1360-0 on your ETM (here) you will see the wire is green/violet. You will also see that the same wire runs the O2 sensor relay, but that cannot be the issue, as the fuse is downstream.

There is also a tiny chance that the ground is loose, but that is not gonna "blow" or "pop" a fuse, but it might melt a fuse.

Now, go pull your rear seat, pull the access hatch and start looking. You are looking for a pinched wire somewhere.

Since you NEED to get that car out of there, you could also cut the violet/green and feed it +12V when the car is running. You could hack a wire from the cigarette lighter if you had to...

ok... so just had to open this thread back up. I'm still having the same problem. I just can't seem to keep that fuse from blowing.

                        **Note:
I've jumped the wire before to the radio wire, to test the fuel pump. It cut on so I know it's working. I've followed the wires back and still nothing. No shorts. So I'm at wits in kind of like that guy there in your sig...

did you replace the pump or make sure there was no bad wires?

I did both. I replaced the pump on several occasions thinking that the pumps I had were bad. Went back and hotwired them all. They all work. It's just that fuse. That damn idgaf-I'll-blow-whenever-fuse.
