I have a question. Are you retarded? Read up about subs and audio for a while if your looking to get a system. you need a box. Hit up stereoinstaller1 aka LukeOriginally posted by sickbro91sweet thank u does it sound weird without a box? or does the truck act like a huge box???Comment

Lolz...
I think you might be the retard ;)
No, you don't need a box, but you need a woofer designed to run without a box if you don't have one.Comment

Ha sorry I didn't mean to make it sound like box was the only option, it's just that almost all woofer setups use boxes and they sound tons better.Comment

again, do some research. subs designed for no box can make the same sound as one with a box. dont try to act like you meant something else when someone calls you out, it makes you look even worse.
OP: searching is your best friend, people who have to mention it are not. these r3v "OG's" dont like to repeat themselves.sigpicComment

Really dude? Now you're just making me look like a complete jack-ass, you asshole.Comment

Oh come on girls.
You rubbed off poorly when you call the OP a retard for a totally valid idea.
If you like loud, I'll admit a box is better. You get the extra damping from the compression of the air in the box, which will help your sub stay together.
A sub really has to have a good amount of design in it to hold together well when in "free air". You generally have to allow more gap in the field due to more flex and you have to have a substantially nonlinear (toward the max displacement) suspension to keep from bottoming it out.
These reasons are also why my sub does well (pictures above) with the dual cone/dual suspension/stability.
All that technical jargon means that if you are going to run a free air sub, it needs to be designed for it and you have to have some self control to not turn the gain all the way up.Comment

Free-air subs IMO should be used as a last resort. They WON'T have the same sound, that's not gonna happen.
You have the right idea, but you'll be much happier putting the sub in that location inside a properly built enclosure. BTW I'm an installer by trade. For another 2 weeks anyway.92 325ic 5 speed, hard top, windscreen, 133k, for sale
