Convertible has a short.

Fuse 21 has shorted and left my convertible top inoperable. Is there a known likely suspect in the convertible electric system?

According to the ETM, 21 has nothing to do with your top.

really? the 92 bmw 325ic document i am looking at shows a green and red power wire going from fuse 21 to the electro mechanical convertible top control unit.

Does anyone know where said control unit is so i can just run a fused hot wire to it temporarily?

EDIT: Found the convertible top control unit in the trunk and ran a fused power wire to it, so i can operate my top now. I think i might Build a little fuse box and run power to a few of the crucial things on that fuse.

That is really wierd. I am pretty sure I blew fuse 21 before and the top didnt go out. I dont see how that has any corralation with it either.

Fucking '92s.

I just spent a week rebuilding the electrical system on one, and yeah, they are different. You didn't say you had a '92...and your screen name....

I looked at an earlier diagram. Oddly enough, I checked an '89.

I show page 56 as 5400-0, with the diagram of your electric top. S319 is the splice that splits power to run all the other crap on fuse 21 (radio, chime module, instrument panel, etc) and IIRC, it is in the drivers door sill.

I assume you have already downloaded the ETM for your car?

Don't fuck around, pull the seat to get to it, then start checking that wire for power from C103 outward, assuming the fuse is good.

There is a short somewhere in the fuse 21 circuit, i ran a power wire to the top and had it working so i decided to run a nice clean fused wire back to it to use for now, as soon as i got done the top stopped working when it had worked fine ten minutes prior and the new wire is definitely getting power. I will check out that splice you were talking about though and see if its shorting. Im going to find out which relay is for the top and try it first though.

The saga continues, now the top works whenever it wants to, not whenever i want it to, does this sound like a relay problem? Does anyone know which relay effects the top?
