    pop that amp!

not my wittiest thread title, but

it seems my e30 keeps blowing factory amps for some reason. im sure water has something to do with it, as its not the most "sealed" vessel, if you know what i mean. ive gone thru four of them over the past 2 years, and im sick of it. so ive decided (much to my dismay) that its time to rewire the cars sound system

87 325IS for starters, with the premium sound. ive got an aftermarket alpine deck the PO installed before, so im all set on that.

basically, i just need a lil help re-wiring this puppy. YES ive checked the sticky about the premium sound system (this one: http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...hlight=premium) and it has given me some insight on what needs to be done, but i still want to get some opinions from you guys in case theres an easier way to go about this etc.

so yea, for those of you who have bypassed the factory amp, used an aftermarket deck, and kept the stock speakers/tweeters, how did you go about doing it? any DIYs with pics out there?

any help is greatly appreciated guys/gals. winter is quickly closing in, and as always, my procrastination and slacking over the summer has got me in a rush to get the E30 ready for winter.

    thanks guys

some auto X action for ya (not my car, i wish tho)

OK, if you keep blowing stock amps, the issue is probably in the aftermarket deck.

Since your amp is toast anyway, go ahead and bypass it. There are several different ways, but running 4 pair of speaker wire to the trunk is likely the most fool-proof.

See if your local car stereo shop will sell you some "9 wire" to make things easier.

You would be shocked how those stock PS speakers sound with an aftermarket amp!

On a related note, I think it is funny that Dale Beunning is one of my customers these days...

haha i was hoping and fearing that youd post

haha the only reason i was fearing you posting was your avatar/sig combo for some reason destroys my browser and makes everything freeze up haha

no worries tho, i appreciate the help

so is there anything i need to be aware of when i do this? i remember reading something about needing a constant power for certain decks in that sticky thread, and making sure to have everything labeled to ensure that the phasing doesnt get messed up etc etc

seems pretty straight forward tho, ive got the speaker wire diagram, seems that all it is is just matching up the proper channels from the aftermarket stereo harness to the facotry amp harness

go get Chrome. If that doesn't fix the browser issues, get more RAM.
