    Nakamichi Color Change

On the 45z, does it have switchable illumination? I've found one that has green illumination, but I didnt know if it was able to be switched over to amber.

Also, does anyone have any experience with them playing burned media? CD-R's...? I'm assuming they wont play MP3's?

    TIA,
    CL

    Chris,
The 45z does NOT have swithable illumination. Only the new CD-400 does. Most of the 45Zs were green, and I think that amber might have actually been a special order. A friend of mine got one a while back in amber for his 944. I can't recall how well it played burned media (if it did at all) and I know that it won't play MP3s.

:( Thanks Ken. That was what I expected to hear. Oh well, it was a good deal until i found out it was green.

Back to the drawing board. I love my Alpine but i want something less flashy

when I was shopping like a year ago, Nak units were either green or amber, but not both.

                thanks for the tip.

I much prefer the look of the 45z over the CD400 though.

I'll keep searching... plus I have to decide to give up my MP3 CD's.... those are nice.

If you don't need the dual 24-bit DACs of the CD45z, I'd look for a CD-40 or CD-35 too. They can be picked up for very little $.

the CD400 boxes I looked at had both Green and Amber listed, with a little box next to them, one of which was marked. Like I said, it was a while ago.

I'm looking for 3 pre-outs though. 1 sub, and one for F, one for R.
I dont think those models have 3 pre-outs right?

Why do you opt for a Nak? What's wrong with, say, Alpine? Just wondering..

He said that he found a good deal on the 45Z. Plus the Nak's DACs will outperform the Alpine's - and it doesn't look like it's from a spaceship to boot. Not to say that Alpine doesn't make a nice product (because they most certainly do), it's just that Nak makes a better one (the 45Z at least) and they look like they belong in an e30.

                            I already have an Alpine.

While I enjoy its MP3 ability.... that isnt enough to make me LOVE it. I tend to find I drive with the screen switched off at night to reduce the glare from the white lettering. The green buttons I dont mind that much... but i'd ditch them if I could.

I've driven enough e30's with high end Nak's to realize they are exactly what I want. I'm not running external amps yet, so the ability to control Bass, Mid, Treble from the HU is a major bonus. The fact it looks stock is a huge plus. Also, I am one for understated 'mods'. Something the average user would glance right over and miss.
Alpine doesnt really fit that bill.

I also dont need stuff like the tilting face of the alpine, or the track name & artist.

Ken, can you point me to a good audio review site with reviews on HU's? Most the ones I find online are written by users... who may or may not have a clue. I'd like to compare the 45z to the other 2 you mentioned.

                            Thanks!
