    Feeler: pedal gauges

I've been developing a 10 LED bar graph that displays the amount you press down on any pedal. The point for me was to dash mount these LEDs so that I can take video from in car but still "see" what my feet are doing without a second camera.

After a while of doddling around, I finally finished a working prototype. I have tested it on car power but have yet to hook up the flex sensor to the pedal. I should have that testing done tomorrow. Right now, production is me literally soldering every connection by hand but if enough people want it, I would send off my schematics to have the board printed or print it myself.

LED bar graphs can be yellow/red/green (imo clutch/brake/gas). Or I can plug in real LEDs with any color combo you want.

    Questions or comments?

Here's a video of the bench test

^What he said... and make it longer so we can replace the SI lights with it. Wait I think George did something like that?

Ball park for now is $30-40 per unit. But I need to do some figuring and finalize how I'm going to do this. hand soldering each board takes too long.

Me too. I'm still learning all this shit.

Maybe, but what about the clutch/brake? Also, IIRC the stock TPS isn't a linear voltage curve. I wanted to make a universal solution.

The LED readout is probably the same one george used. I don't think he made a gauge tho. I can realistically make it anyway you want. This is just a working prototype. Ideally, I want it in a good enclosure and having the lights pointing out. But I'm open to ideas. I do want to keep it universal so anyone can fit it in any car though. E30 specific options might cost more.

Figured out the best way to mount the sensor. you mount it perpendicular to the pedal so it bends off of the firewall. Its not the most ideal situation but it should work in the long haul. Not like you see much down there anyway...

Diagram. Green thing is the sensor.

Let me see about mass producing boards and get some parts pricing. I should have specifics by the weekend.

Whats the purpose of this? It's a cool idea, but it's almost like a narror band wide band sensor. If you run an AF sensor to your TPS then it will do the same thing.

                          what do you mean?

the flex sensor (if setup properly) is fairly accurate. I found out this exact sensor was used in the game glove from nintendo back in the day lol.

I think I'll settle for $35 each for at least my first round of GBs.

Anywho, I've still been working on this in my spare time (funny right?). I finally got the board to a single layer and got a working schematic. I do hop 2 lines (bad juju) but it should work. I need to solder in the pieces and make sure I didn't lose something in translation. Once I get this one soldered together I will probably do a full on GB.

Suggestions are welcome for the final product. for now, I was thinking of just leaving the case up to the buyer (to save money and my imagination). The rest will be assembled and function as seen.

This seems really cool, but I'm with Viet, confused. Why do you need to monitor pedal pressure? I'm assuming this is a track related issue?
