    Powered sub..yay/nay?

Looking to redo my audio..wait for it.. on a budget. 500 or less. Im no audio expert but id be happy with even a little "boom" and clearaty is what im after. Anyways.. Looking to see if anyones used these in a E30. These in particular...

My budget is under 500 including a new HU. Haven't decided on which one yet. Ideally, I wanted to go with a luke10' box/sub and run 2 front speakers off the HU. Since he isnt making the boxes right now I might either go with the powered sub set up or just run 4 speakers off a 4ch amp(yah, I know this set up sucks). Reason for not going all out is im not sure if im keeping this car so I dont want to invest a lot into audio gear..

i used a powered sub in my e30 for a bit. it worked pretty well for my application, which included very little hip hop.

buuuuut, there were some songs with a deep bass beat (shiny toy guns - dont cry out is the one that comes to mind) where the bass would seem to "lag" behind what the song was supposed to sound like. i don't know if it was a setting on the sub, or if the sub just couldn't handle it.
