aux cable to ipod=high pitch whine

Why am I getting this? I thought a direct connection would have better sound quality. Could it possibly be the quality of the cable? thanks.

cable quality or check your settings on your ipod. thats what i did with mine. or get a deck with built in ipod jack instead of the aux cable

I messed around with it a little today and discovered the whinning is related to whether or not i'm charging my iphone at the same time I'm using the aux cable. Weird. Is there anyway to fix this? thanks.

It's a ground issue. I had the same thing in my Mazda 3, and have it in my E30 as well. From what I understand you are getting feedback throught he grounds because they are not isolated between the ipod when charging and the stereo deck. The only answer I found that worked was a ground loop isolater that I picked up at Crutchfield. It was about $20.

I was wondering, does this mean there is a problem with the ground somewhere else in the car? how can I check for this?

just don't charge ur I-pod while ur playing it. I think its internal to the i-pod. the charging circuit and headphone amp use a commom ground i believe. you might be able to bypass this using the dock for line level to ur HU
