    alternater whine

i moved my amp today and re-grounded it at a new location. I also grounded my capacitor to my battery because i reinstalled the trunk sound deadening and it worked out well that way based on my setup. On top of this i installed my IDmax10 which is amazing. I tested it all out without the car on (just battery) it sounded great. Well i went to drive somewhere and it was whining like crazy. so i opened the trunk and looked for places where the power cable was near the rca's or speakers wires, but its not close anywhere. The ground for my amp is about 4 inches away from the speakers which lead into the cabin, could this be the problem?. I can't figure out what the problem is. I am going to move the one ground in the morning and see if thats the problem. Any ideas.....sorry for the long post but i wanted to give as much info as possible.

Do not ground anything to the battery.

Ideally you want to ground your amps, cap, deck etc all to the same place on the body.

If it persisits your RCA's might be TEH SUCK.

RCA's are fine, i'll make a new ground for the Cap. It would take some serious reorganization to ground them all to the same place, and its too cold to be outside for very long. I think two new ground will probably do it.

Its not "necessary" to ground everything to the same spot. All having their own grounds works perfectly fine. Just sand off some paint where the ground is so you get a better contact with the body.

well while it is best to have everything grounded at one point, it's not practical to run a ground wire all the way back to the trunk if your amps/cap is located there. Remember, the shorter the ground the better. I would ground the amp/cap in the same spot, making sure to have a completely bare metal spot and with leads as short as possible.

Also don't worry about the ground wire near the speaker, the interference is from power wires near low voltage signal wires (RCAs), not speaker wires.

it has to be the ground on the battery then, its the only possible problem based on the responses, and i can fix it in about 5 mins. - thanx guys

i'll post again if i can't get it fixed.

Well, next time let on to your knowledge a little better.

If you're picking Peavey as your bass manufacturer I hardly consider you an audiophile. ;)

I'm no "audiophile". I have lots of stuff to learn still. Everyone does. No one knows everything. As far as bass playing goes... I have a '98 Fender Jazz Bass 5 with 9v active pickups and use a Peavey 210TX with a Peavey MarkVI head. Is it awesome? eh... compared to some, yes. Compared to others, no. Does it work and sound halfway decent? Yep. Good enough for me ;) As far as car audio goes, I know more than a lot of people. Although I don't know everything. I'll just put in my 2 cents. If you dont believe, thats cool. If ya do, thats cool too ;) I'm not here to fight on the internet lol
