    speaker baffle/enclosure

this one for StereoInstaller1 (or any one really)

on the rear shelf, is there any type of enclosure or baffle that can be used to better the sound output? crustfield has these foam ones (http://www.crutchfield.com/g_762/Foa...s.html?tp=2809), is there anything rigid or do these foam ones work well?

i'd say bigger sound-- something that can go loud and stay sounding good with a nice feel to it.

        Yeah...no.

You can do a pair of 6X9's in there, but the metal cutting is kind of a bitch. You will then have LOUD, but not necessarily better sound.

You can do a nice set of 6.5's there, but that only nets you a tiny bit more than 5.25's, and still no bottom end.

If you amplified a set of 6X9's and built "notch filters" that chopped a bunch of midrange squawk out, that works OK, but why not just do a sub?

So let me get this striaght...you want better sound, but aren't willing to cut?

What if I could do something absolutely amazing, but it is gonna run $1200 or so, like other cars do?

            Let me guess...no, right?

That would be why the sub box builds sell out damn near instantly! There is no magic bullet for these cars, sorry. They all need some power, they all add weight, they all take some space, they are all some work to put in...one way or another, you are gonna pay to get decent sound in an E30.

Just so happens my way is best. Cheaper, lighter, uses less space, all of the above.

Maybe I can get someone else to build the damn boxes so I don't have to...it is a TON of work!

Anyway, good luck on coming up with something. Seriously enough, though...I might have something new up my sleeeve. If I d what I am thinking, have some money ready!

yeah no you lost me at $1200. now on an aesthetic stand point, any way to conceal this to make this look stock? i'm not a fan of big speaker grills showing the brand, would prefer something similar to stock black grill.

Lay a flat piece of black carpet over your entire rear shelf.
Install quality components up front, power them off an amplifier.

                  Boom, "better" sound.

I meant no speakers back there at all.
Quality components (5.25 or 6.5) up front, amplified, will give good sound. It takes more money/effort than a $5 magic baffle, but that's life.

It's hard to believe, but once you hear a REAL setup that actually sets a "stage", you'll wonder how everyone else gets by on wal-mart speakers in the back, blown stockies up front, and a cheap flashy deck.

I use 5.25" in the stock speaker housings, stock look, better sound. they are ampified of course.
