    My stock radio is "frying"

Not sure how to describe it but, here goes.

This morning on the way home from work my radio volume suddenly went into a low but loud hum.

After that the right side speakers stopped working and there was a smell of burning electrics. Shut the radio off.

On the way in to work I tried the radio again. The right side speakers do not work and the smell returned.

I have a CD43 to replace it with so not concerned about the stock cassette player.

My concern is, is this just a radio/HU issue or do I have sinister electrical issues to address.

    Any ideas?

The car is a 91 318is and the HU is the stock OEM cassette/radio that comes with it. I don't know what pn is assigned to it.

BTW brother, major congrats on not smoking. I am on my way to make second rounds at a prominent cancer center and I tell you there is a patient here who wishes he had quit smoking. It is hard to be told you are go to die from cancer in about 3 weeks.

Next time you want to smoke, think hospice bro!

The vast majoriuty of 318is cars came with "Premium Sound", meaning there is a tiny little amp in the trunk.

What you are describing sounds more like an issue with the amp than anything.

Thanks for the support. I hated smoking when I was a smoker, before this last round. I started up after 8 1/2 years, smoked 2 more years or so, and 65 days today.

I hate the fucking things, and fear of cancer has nothing to do with it.

Man what a busy night at the hospital!

Mine did not come with premium sound. The smell is lingering but faint.

Whatever the motivator I applaud you. Not easy to quit. Sometimes the first step is harder than the next. COPD is another shit thing to have. Either way man, congrats to you. You won't regret it.

            So no tweeter pods?

If no PS, your car is about the only straight install.
