6.5in front speaker pods. Nearly completed

Just thought I would make public my recent progress on this project.

I've been working on them off and on for a couple months now, not in any sort of rush. Just kinda as I feel like working on them.

I finished the first final positive today. Primered it this morning, and wet-blocked it out. End result is close enough to perfect for me. This one is the drivers side. It is ready to have the final mold made. I will make the mold out of urethane rubber, so I can peel it off the fiberglass copies with ease, and it will be infinately reusable.

    pictures:

Now most importantly. I really need to get a feel for the amount of intrest in these. Being perfectly honest here, the feedback I've got has been hit or miss, some people love em, others dislike them. What I really need to know is who is genuinely interested in purchasing a set of these upon completion. My initial figure was about $100 or so a pair, but after I have taken the time to look into the cost suppies (fiberglass cloth, resin, and gelcoat) a more realistic estimate would be $150 or so a pair.

Those look really good jordan. If audio was a high priority right now on my car i'd definately buy a pair. I dont think you'll have a problem selling a good number of these....

Are they a sealed enclosure? If so, what is the volume?

No, they are open backed, however once screwed down to the door they are basicly sealed.

The volume yes.. never was very good with math, let me break out the 3d model, i think i can calculate the volume that way.

                2.54 cm = 1inch
                10mm = 1cm

16.387 cubic centimeters equals 1 cubic inch
so 45 cubic inches is about right

well i'd like to get some nice components for up front. with some 6.5's. I'm worried if I put them in the regular spot (using the aftermarket grills) it would be in the way. so I guess I'm ready to give up the side panels if need be. 100 sounds better than 150, but you gotta do what you gotta do

I'm down for a set though. PM me when you get them going, so I don't forget

Those would be kickass for doing a set of 7" mid-bass drivers... Damn. If only I had some cash.

Write out that on paper or explain what the E and the + means and i can help. 46 cubic inches seems huge. Thats about 4 cubic feet, and the box for my 12W7 is only 1.3cubic feet.

                          7.401E+005 (which is the same as 7.4E5) means 7.401 * 10^5

                          7.401 * 10^5 equals 45.15 cubic inches.

And no, 45 cubic inches does NOT equal to about 4 cubic feet.
it is about 0.026 cubic feet.

Google has a built in calculator function that is very handy.
                          It understand "normal language".

The search query "7.4E5 mm^3 to cubic inches" gives the result:
                          7.4E5 (mm^3) = 45.1575706 cubic inches

and the query "7.4E5 mm^3 to cubic feet" gives the result:
                          7.4E5 (mm^3) = 0.0261328534 cubic feet

It's funny, because i look back at my post, and i'm like, what the HELL did i just type? LOL!!!

My mistake. I though the E is just like the EE on calculators as well. I just addressed cubic inches to feet and vice-versa when i designed the W7 specific box for my JL W7 12".

If you have 45 cubic inches and you need cubic feet, just divide the 45 by 1728 (12x12x12).

And you are right, you get .026ft. I don't know what i was doing, but apparently i just converted inches to feet. Sorry bout that guys....

Hey, this is slightly off topic, but what did you use to make that pattern/mold? And what type of rubber are yo going to use and where are you going to get it? I need to make some rear speaker enclosers for my car and this might be the way to go.
